Growth is always welcomed but it does create its own set of challenges.
When a new worship center was needed in the Baldwin City, Kansas area Ft. Jerry Sheeds selected Devore + Associates as the architects for this project. Having previously worked with Ft. Sheeds on the Sacred Heart Catholic Church project in Ottawa we were pleased to have the opportunity of again working with him and to be invited back as a member of the design team for this new facility.
A limited budget and a need for increased seating capacity led us to utilize a single story, metal building structural system for its longer span capability and economy. We combined that with a wood stud wall system, interior drywall and painted finishes, and a brick and stucco type exterior finish that allowed the project to meet the functional needs of the church and still remain within budget.
The interior offers a simple, yet inviting, environment for worship. The entry is comfortable and the other spaces, including the large kitchen are functional and attractive.
The building sets on the brow of a low rise of land just outside the City of Baldwin City, and offered ample land for future expansion, parking and outside activities.
