A
large, 75 year old, multileveled facility was in need of a
major interior remodel and update. Working with the building
committee of the church we were able to develop a master planned,
phased program that would allow the work to proceed in stages
as funds became available.
The alter area was redesigned to open up the full width of
the sanctuary, yet by the use of removable railings, it could
retain the more traditional kneeling rail for communion and
some services. It was also made more accessible for persons
in wheelchairs. The large stained glass windows were rebuilt
following a microburst that occurred during construction and
blew one window out into the street. The walls were painted
a color that brings out the major colors of those windows.
A new office suite was created in the front area of the church,
major remodeling was done throughout the various levels creating
more useable spaces, a new chapel area, redesigned kitchen
and dining area and improvements in the infants, children’s
and adults classroom spaces. Bathrooms were remodeled and
new ones added and a new elevator that serves all five floor
level of the building was installed.
New heating and air conditioning was added throughout the
church except in the sanctuary where the existing system was
retained. New electrical work, lighting, a new video projection
system and a new sound system were also added.
